FIND’s artist and scholar fellowship programs instigate dialogues and projects between artists/scholars and the UAE landscape. We support projects that explore the unique transnational history of the UAE in a contemporary artistic and/or scholarly context and encourage artists/scholars to have a participatory element in their work. Collaboration between artists and scholars - either FIND, Emirati, UAE-based, or UAE-connected/engaged - is encouraged but not required. Candidates for FIND Artists and Scholars must be either Emirati, based in the UAE, or propose to be actively engaged with UAE-connected communities. Fellowships last 3-4 months, depending on the time of year.
Approximately 10 FIND Artists and Scholars are chosen for each academic calendar year. Artist and Scholar Fellows will be required to focus on a research topic throughout the 3-4 month Fellowship. As a part of this research, the Fellow will provide ongoing public documentation – in the form or written and/or visual blog posts, hold at least one workshop with a FIND-related community around the chosen topic, and potentially participate in a public panel or give a public talk. The Fellows are also expected to review work progress and attend regular meetings with the FIND team, and they will interact with the NYUAD community of scholars and students when appropriate.
Current participants in the FIND fellowship program have been chosen based on recommendations. We will open up the 2014-2015 fellowships for public application in Spring 2014. Keep in touch with us to learn about application guidelines and deadlines.
