After recording over 100 dreams of the people in Abu Dubai, I had to select the most exciting ones to include in my project. The selection process was not easy, as there were so many new and unpredictable facts that I only discovered by doing this research such as:
- Shared dreams: most of the interviewed people share the same dream related to their financial situation
- The quality of the recorded sound
- The nationalities: The expats divide the city into neighborhoods, which are also divided into small communities. It was not easy to check the list of the targeted nationalities, especially because by the end of the recording days we had met and interviewed many Asians but we were missing UAE nationals and Europeans.
Given the above facts, I worked towards dividing the people into 3 main groups with 5 individual interviews in each group:
Group 1: Asia
Group 2: Europe and USA
Group 3: Arabs
I vowed not to reveal names or ages and to keep it completely anonymous.
From sounds to forms:
I started to analyze each recorded dream and to read its sound wave and spectrum using a special software. These images present all the sound waves of the 15 dreams selected. The visual results were very interesting and, for sure, very inspiring to work on.
The next step will be to go through these images and to try to create a merging form based on the sounds' spectrum lines and volumes, an exciting design process from 2d lines and colors to 3d spatial design.
