I have been experiencing technical difficulties with regards to Instagram posts. Usually, when someone just uses the hashtag #MsKhaleejiMaam , it is immediately picked up. What I'm finding is it tends to duplicate the image on the website (see image). When the web design team attempt fixing it, it works for a while then duplicates it again.
What I also found is that, sometimes, submissions come in the form of text only. Users sometimes do not post any images at all. The accompanying image would automatically just be a blue square. I've opted to make it a black square instead. It seems to me that the black box connotes censorship. I am reminded of the black marker used by Saudi authorities to blacken women's body parts in magazines. That was the rationale behind the choice.
Another difficulty I've faced is convincing some women to make a contribution. They are more than willing to 'spread the word', share the website on their social media, and compliment me on the necessity of such a project. But, when it comes to making a contribution, they hesitate. Most reasons given is they seem to think, because of it being worded as self-representational, that they must post something significant. So they always ask for more time to 'come up' with something special. I tell them that their everyday activities are significant and that's what I want posted on there. Also, they seem to believe that it's a one-time only submission and so they feel pressured to make that one-time submission special. I tell them that they can post as many times as they like to alleviate the stress that their submission must be exceptional.
